The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua is proud to host the 32nd annual Celebration of the Arts taking place at the Kapalua resort. During this special weekend, more than 125 of the state’s most renowned cultural practitioners, artisans, educators, speakers, fashion designers, photographers, and entertainers come together to celebrate and preserve all things Hawaiian.

This year’s theme “E Kāmau ke Kuleana…The Privilege and Responsibility Perseveres” focuses on the importance of passing on ‘ike (knowledge) to the next generations.

SUNRISE CEREMONY

(D.T. Fleming Beach)

An annual tradition of the Celebration of the Arts. Join cultural practitioners for an invigorating ceremony guaranteed to rejuvenate your body and spirit. Chants are offered by all to the rising sun.  Attendees should wear swimwear and bring towels.

Emotions and spirituality peak as traditional chants of genealogy and the islands are expressed by practitioners stating their intent to be a part of the Celebration of the Arts. The Annual Namahana Award of Excellence will be presented to kupuna (elders) who have served the culture with a zest for life.
